Originally created by the silver golem, Karn, as the world Argentum. Unknowingly, he also left a trace of Glistening Oil, a viral contagion that exposed this plane to Phyrexian influence right from the start.

Positioned far from the other core planes, this plane is reminiscent of Sengoku-era Japan. Split into a physical and spiritual realm, it is governed by the respective interplay of mortals and kami. The War of the Kami is over, but the after effects still linger even after thousands of years.

Lorwyn was an idyllic, storybook world where races of fable thrive in perpetual midsummer. For a time, every three centuries or so, a Grand Aurora occured to transform the plane to its darker counterpart of Shadowmoor (and vice versa) with only the faeries being aware of the shift. This cycle has recently been broken.

Once a unified plane, it was sundered into five Shards by an unfathomably powerful calamity some several millennia past. Post-Mending, the shards converged again and an ætheric maelstrom now blooms in the middle; fueled by casters defending their territory.
