--Plane--
Theros is a plane very similar to Hellenic Greece and greatly draws upon Greek myth to define it. Ruled by the gods of Nyx, heroes face monsters, the sea rages, people make burnt offerings at shrines and epic adventures take place; all of it a part of mankind's struggle against the primal forces of the world and conflict with the other sapient inhabitants.
One such inhabitant, the satyr, Xenagos, discovered his latent planeswalker spark and dreamed of higher grandeur after it awakened, thinking himself meant to take a place among the gods. Of course, more than one god took this as an insult to the pantheon; the most powerful among them being Heliod, god of the sun, choosing Elspeth as his champion to have Xenagos struck down. Things have been shaky in Theros ever since.
--The Realms--
Nyx - A paranormal realm associated with dreams and the subconscious, a literal and proverbial nightsky where the gods dwell. Nyx is so closely tied to the plane's deities that, whenever they manifest, where they should be shadowed they instead display the glorious starlight of the nightsky. Dreams are seen as gifts from the gods, and so are enchantments, due to their connection with this realm; whenever mortals sleep, they are said to be "visiting Nyx". Tales of the gods can bee seen played out in the constellations.
Mortal Realm - The sunlit realm seated upon a disc of stone, beneath the dome of stars that is Nyx, and a home to the many living races and creatures of Theros. Five rivers of mana mark its boundary and flow into the Underworld below.
Underworld - A subterranean realm beneath the "Rivers That Ring The World", where the dead end up and dwell. It is governed by the god Erebos, cast into this place by a frightened and paranoid Heliod after his birth. Although the Underworld is dark, it is ironically not connected to Nyx, as it lacks the night as much as it lacks the Sun. It's fairly well known that things can escape from the Underworld, but these "Returned" have to give up their identity and ability to form memories to do so; Erebos also regularly fetches back these escaped souls.
